Post-incident hardening

After an incident, fixing the weaknesses that allowed it and strengthening your defenses so it is harder to repeat.

What it is

When an incident is contained and systems are restored, the work is not over. Post-incident hardening reviews what happened and how, closes the specific gap that was used (for example a weak password, an unpatched system, or a missing second sign-in step), and tightens related defenses.

We document what we found and recommend further changes.

Why it matters for small and midsize businesses

Attackers who succeed once often try again, and an unresolved weakness is an open invitation. Hardening turns a costly event into a concrete improvement.

The written summary helps with insurers, customers, and any required reporting. It also shows, with real evidence, which additional protections, such as those in Advanced Security, are worth adding.

Where it fits

Incident response also includes:

  • Outage and incident triage Help working out what has gone wrong, how serious it is, and what to do first when systems are down or something looks like an attack.
  • Ransomware and malware cleanup Removing malicious software, closing the way it got in, and returning your systems and data to a trusted state.
  • Server and network triage Diagnosing and fixing server and network problems that stop your team from working.
  • Data recovery assistance Getting back files that were deleted, corrupted, or lost to hardware failure or an attack.
  • Post-incident hardening After an incident, fixing the weaknesses that allowed it and strengthening your defenses so it is harder to repeat.
